Makeover Monday: 2/28

I started this week's special project with a thrifted springy floral cotton twin flat sheet, and quickly realized it wouldn't be enough for what I had in mind.
~*~

So, I raided Sophie's closet and found this polka dot twin flat sheet that perfectly matches the flowers.
~*~
I used the floral for the beginning and end of this basket,
~*~

... and the dots in the center. I used both fabrics for the side bow!
~*~
Before you wag your finger at me for swiping my daughter's sheet, let me explain that this is to be her very own Easter basket. Last year I got so caught up in making baskets for the shop and other people that my own babe didn't have one of these beauties. (Bad, bad mom. Though I'll admit that all along I've been banking on the idea that kids ultimately don't remember anything from before they are 5 years old) In any case, now she can be the princess of the egg hunt!

A Vera Good Day

I went thrifting the other day looking for a particular item. But, of course, I took my time and poked through the entire store. I am so glad I did!
~*~ First I peeked in the area of "new and still boxed housewares and home decor items". I have never actually found anything of value in this section, but one never knows what one will find. On this day, I spied the Vera signature and lo and behold! A perfectly 70s vinyl tablecloth new in its package. Wow.
~*~
Next, I sauntered over to the sheet section. Holy moly! TWO sets of Vera twin sheets in this fantastic blue lily and tan leaves combo.
~*~
Finally, the icing on the cake from the towel section. Unbelievable pair of Vera bath towels in pristine condition.
~*~
It was a "Vera" good day to be a picker! hehehehehe

Sunshine and Pink Lemonade

Someone special is turning 1, and her mommy is having a "Sunshine and Pink Lemonade" birthday party for her! I was asked to put together two dozen strips of vintage fabric that she could use to tie around the flower vases on the tables. These are the ones I came up with... don't they positively shout this sweet theme?
~*~
I absolutely flip out over helping to create party favors and decor- birthdays, weddings, baby showers, you name it. As a detail gal myself, I totally appreciate it when other people put thought into the small things that make a huge impact. I so want to see photos of these vases!

They're Baaaaaack

The updated 2011 *one egg wonder* baskets are about to make their grand entrance in sosorosey. This year they have removable bows for added adorableness :)
~*~
***pssst! These are the perfect size for American Girl doll Easter baskets!

Thursday's Treasure

I have gone months without finding one piece of pink or aqua Pyrex.
~*~
Then, BONANZA- 4 gorgeous mixing bowls in one store! I found the large turquoise butterprint bowl first, then the others appeared as I went up and down the different aisles. It was a happy day for me at the Salvation Army. Look for all of these in sosovintage this week!

Group of Goodies

Here's part of the bunch of sosorosey items headed to The Muse in Maryland next week. It is unbelievably time consuming to gather the items, tag them, photograph them, and create inventory sheets, so I am very happy that this batch is finally ready to go!!

Daily Dose of Cute

Yep. It's a napkin ring. Porcelain, Enesco, Japan, 1976. How, I ask you, did all of those little bits survive intact for 35 years? I know that the other 3 that came with this one did not fare nearly so well. Those were re-donated, and I am keeping this little sweetie for myself. Her smiley eyes make me happy :)

Makeover Monday: 2/21

We've had such a nice taste of spring the last few days, that I thought I'd choose a bright fabric for today's makeover. Here's the ball all cut and ready to be crocheted; it's a floral print with pinks, lavender and turquoise on a tangerine background.
~*~Here's a closeup of how all the colors look blended together...
~*~

... and here's the whole big basket. She is 7" in diameter and almost 4" tall... a great size to bring a functional burst of warmth to any room of the house. Look for her in sosorosey soon!
~*~
Happy President's Day to you Americans out there! Are you having a holiday today? My hubby had to work, but Sophie did not have school today. This week I will be readying a big bunch of goodies for a trip to The Muse in Frederick in early March. I'm also looking forward to working on the edging for a special bath mat order. I have a very exciting possible wedding order in sosovintage that I should hear a final answer on soon- I'll share details on that if I get the job! What do you have happening in your neck of the woods this week?

Spill It Session #3

There I am: the skinny, pimply, awkward 9th grade new girl in town. Virginia Beach, Virginia. First week of high school. Dressed out for PE. Running the track. As far from the door to get back in the gym as it's possible to be. A seagull passing overhead takes aim, fires. Nails it. A giant, runny white splotch lands on my head. Not the back of my head. Or the side. Nope. Right in front.
~*~
In a shocked stupor, I jog the rest of the way around the track with my hand on my head- looking like I'm in some sort of swoon, I'd imagine. Running inside without even asking permission, I tried my hardest to wash the gunk out of my hair in the bathroom sink before anyone could figure out what I was doing.
~*~
I foresaw some kind of scene out of Carrie...all the kids pointing and shrieking as I walked down the hall. In actuality, there was only mild ribbing. To my shocked surprise, I did not come away from this incident with any permanent nickname or mental illness. Still, over 25 years later, I count it up there as one of my most embarrassing moments. We all have them, right? Please, oh please, leave a comment and share one of yours!

Together At Last

My customer was kind enough to send me a photo of the two sister rugs in their new digs. This is the master bathroom; the little sis is on the left in front of the commode, and the big sis goes the length of the double sink vanity. I'm pretty pleased with the way I was able to make the two rugs match without being exactly the same.
~*~
We have a beautiful sunny weekend here in Virginia so far! Here's hoping you all do, too.

Thursday's Treasure

What we have here is just one glorious corner from my NEW set of reusable grocery bags! I know, it seems wicked odd that *upcycler me* is just now jumping on the "bring your own bags to the grocery store" bandwagon. But it is what it is. Hey, I even thought email would be a passing fad, what can I say.
~*~
The more people I saw doing this, and the more bags I brought into my home and put out for recycling, the more I kept thinking...I've really gotta get some of those reusable bags. So yesterday while I was shopping at TJMaxx for something decent to wear to an upcoming event (a whole nother story), I spied these gorgeous bags at the checkout. For 99 cents! So, now I have 6 of these bad girls, and I can't wait to grocery shop. Do you bring your own bags? If you're a late bloomer like me, I highly suggest a trip to TJMaxx- they have lots of cute styles, and these bags are super sturdy, waterproof, and generously sized. Treasures I tell you!

Coming Soon

It's been a long time since I've added a wallflower to my shop!
~*~
Don't forget, besides looking pretty on the wall, they serve as lovely trivets on your spring table!
~*~

I loved this fabric so much that I made an oval egg basket out of it, too. This one can replace the one that sold yesterday :)
~*~
And, we can't forget sosovintage! These three lovely vintage sheet fabrics are freshly laundered and soon to be listed. Hope you are having a sunny day!

Did You Know...

...that there is a blog out there dedicated solely to vintage sheets? And that it is named, of all things, the vintage sheet blog? Well, now you do! And if you love vintage sheets even half as much as I do, you'll want to head on over there asap.
~*~
The vintage sheet blog is chock full of inspiration and beauty. And, in celebration of its one year anniversary of blogginess, there will be a giveaway each day for the entire month of March! Yours truly will be sponsoring one of these... more details on that later. For now, please visit, enjoy and follow... you can click on the link or the photo to head straight over. Come on back here when you finish drooling and let me know how you liked it :)

Makeover Monday: 2/14

I had a special request in sosorosey for a large upcycled tray. The desired color was primarily pink, but my customer was hoping for a few other pastels as well.
~*~
We decided on these two fabrics; the first is a pale pink cotton rosebud sheet from Simply Shabby Chic, and the other is a vintage sheet from my collection.
~*~

I finished this last night and can't wait to show my customer! I hope it's exactly what she envisions for her white seashell display.
~*~
Happy Valentine's Day! May you have much love and many joys to celebrate on this day :)

New Bed

Our big boy got himself in a nasty fight last week that left him with a hurt foot and wounded pride. He has a good scab on the leg now, but we keep finding little tufts of fur on the floor from when the scratch-scabs come loose.
~*~
Feeling sad that there wasn't terribly much we could do for the fellow, Sophie and I bought him this warm and furry bed to keep on his favorite chair. He was a little leery of it at first, but now he curls up there and snores away for much of the day while he recuperates. He has a fab view of the bird feeders outside for entertainment, too. Hopefully this recent altercation will help him understand that there is no shame in hiding in the shadows when another cat or fox comes prowling around!

Spill It Session #2

Well, last time we got to know a bit more about each other by divulging our celebrity crushes. This week, I thought it would be interesting to learn about each other's, um, "guilty food pleasures." You know, the things we choose to eat that may not be appealing to the masses. The things that are probably not healthy, or that might even make other people shudder.
~*~
For me, these days, it's Spaghettios. My husband definitely finds my desire for this "food" abhorrent. And really, I'm not sure the correct term for those little round things is meatballs. But still, I love these. With garlic powder sprinkled on top. Yeah. In my defense, this is not a daily or even weekly indulgence. In fact, I have gone for months, maybe years, without tasting their tomato-y goodness. But lately, I find myself drawn to them in the grocery store, and I always like to have a can on hand- just in case!
~*~
So, please (oh please) don't leave me hanging with this stunning revelation; leave a comment and share your own guilty food pleasure!

Thursday's Treasure

Oh, just look at the bright beauty I found the other day! Do you know what it is?

~*~

Here's the other side... maybe this will help.
~*~
And look at the little matching freebie that was tucked inside! Yay me!

Feet Upon Feet

Ta da da da da daaaaaaaaaaaah! This newly finished rug just seems to go on and on and on!
~*~
It was super hard to get a good picture of the whole thing!
~*~

Here she is all rolled up and ready to travel to her new home to be with her little sister. She was born last night at about 9:45 PM. She is 60 inches long and 24 inches wide. BUT, can you guess how much she weighs? Leave a comment with your best estimate, and I'll be back to reveal her "birth weight" later this evening :)

Sneak Peek

Here are just a few of the vintage fabrics coming soon to sosovintage. Sunday was a good day for sheets!

Makeover Monday 2/7

Since opening sosovintage, I'm very selective about the non-vintage sheets I purchase for sosorosey upcycled projects. I just don't have room for them! When I saw this ultra-soft cotton violet-orchid gingham, though, I knew I had to buy it. A good purple is hard to find!
~*~

With spring {hopefully} right around the corner, I decided it was time to brush up on my tutu bowl making skills. I'll be Easter basket making before you know it, and the ruffles are the most important part! I love how full this one's "skirt" came out. Look for her in sosorosey soon!

~*~

Happy Monday! Are you Americans dragging after last night's big football game? How about that cute little beaver commercial? I was so happy when today dawned bright and sunny; I'm hoping for a full week of school and the chance to complete lots of projects that are in the final phases. Come back tomorrow for a sneak peek of new vintage fabrics coming to sosovintage soon. And on Wednesday I'll unveil the finished rag rug and have a little contest, too. Here's hoping you have a wonderful week. Especially you, Donna- I'll be thinking about you tomorrow!

Daily Dose of Cute

I found this little bit of adorableness while thrifting this week. Who could pass up a vintage, flocked, blue-eyed kitty on a stick? For 40 cents. But, um, what do you suppose one would do with this?

Friday, February 4, 2011

Makeover Monday {a little late}

I received a special package in the mail this week- the *going home from the hospital* outfit of a little one here in Virginia.
~*~

Her mommy wanted a custom star made from the outfit! Having never crocheted one of these from a baby gown like this, I wasn't sure how much fabric I'd need. I was pleased that I only needed to cut the main body of the gown...the hat and booties can be used for another purpose or packed away as keepsakes.
~*~
Rag rug update: 43" down, 17 more to go!
Ant farm update: many down, about 6 left!

Thursday's Treasure

Arghh, I'm a pirate kitty! With a neon orange fur boa! When Sophie told me she was giving Sinatra a new "cat do", I thought she was going to brush him. I should have known better! He sat so still for his makeover, and would have worn this outfit for quite awhile if I hadn't started feeling sorry for him looking so silly.
~*~
I dressed my dog up when I was little- even went so far as to put a diaper on him. Is this an only child thing, or did those of you with siblings dress your pets, too?
~*~
Since I missed makeover Monday this week, I'll have a special little post with one tomorrow. Hope to see you then!

Bunny Baby

It doesn't get much more precious, does it? Can you guess what this is?
~*~

~*~
It's an iron-on transfer! I couldn't leave it behind when I found it today. Trouble is, there's no date. So, while it looks vintage, I'm not sure that it is vintage. In any case, I am fascinated by the image, and by the fact that it purports to have a "baby fresh frangrance"! And do you know what else? The package says something about glitter, too! I have a surprise in store regarding this item, but for now, I ask... what would YOUR crafty goddess self make with this?
